In Trentino, the provincial administration has renewed its invitation to all breeders and hobbyists to equip themselves with free electric fences, essential tools for the protection of animals and the prevention of damage caused by bears and wolves. These fences, provided by the Province’s Wildlife Service, represent an effective solution to keep large carnivores away from sensitive areas and populated centers. The correct installation of the fences is crucial, as their deterrent effect is not dangerous to humans and helps promote coexistence between local communities and wildlife.
In 2023, 152 new electric fences were distributed, along with funding for particularly elaborate structures and guard dogs. Additionally, during 2024, 14 temporary boxes intended for shepherds were transported to higher altitudes, and 3 new wooden shelters were built, bringing the total to 9 units. Interested parties can request these fences by filling out a specific form available online.
