Toscolano Maderno: a bear with two cubs spotted in the Alto Garda Park. On Friday afternoon, a rare and surprising encounter was reported near a farmhouse, where a bear was seen accompanied by two cubs. This sighting occurs in a context where the presence of bears in the Brescia hinterland is becoming increasingly common, but the appearance of a female with young has been deemed exceptional. According to the 2024 annual report from the Provincial Police of Brescia, there had been no recent reports of females with cubs, with sightings limited to adult specimens.
Adriana, a witness to the event, recounted seeing the bear about 300 meters from the San Lorenzo farmhouse while her husband was working nearby. Initially mistaken for a donkey, the bear quickly caught her attention when the cubs emerged from the vegetation. However, the bear family swiftly fled into the woods as soon as they sensed human presence. A hiker had already reported the bear shortly before Adriana and her husband witnessed the encounter. This incident underscores the importance of wildlife conservation and the preservation of natural habitats in the Garda region.
