Crushed by gravel load in Bedizzole: quarry owner acquitted. The incident dates back to December 2022, when Maurizio Rocchi, a 62-year-old worker, lost his life in a tragic accident at the Panni Group quarry on Via Gavardina. During the loading operations of a truck, Rocchi was buried under a mound of gravel. The public prosecutor requested the acquittal of the quarry owner, acknowledging that there were too many discrepancies between the reconstructions provided by the ATS and those revealed by the investigation commissioned by the prosecutor’s office.
The dynamics of the incident remain unclear; according to the ATS, Rocchi was involved in a malfunction of the machinery used by the owner to load the truck. However, the forensic doctor stated that the amputation of a limb occurred post-mortem. The alarm was raised by the quarry owner as soon as he noticed his colleague’s absence after completing the loading. Unfortunately, the rescue efforts were in vain, and Rocchi was found only after the truck was completely emptied. In light of the evidence presented, the judge accepted the request for full acquittal for the defendant.
