Alambicco del Garda: Record-breaking Grappa Competition at Palazzo Tebaldini
There will be just under three hundred (269 to be exact), setting a national record for this type of event, the labels participating in the competition for the best grappa of Garda, from Lombardy, Veneto, and Trentino Alto Adige. The event takes place under the appealing and well-chosen name of “Alambicco del Garda“, created by the organizing committee of the 25th edition of the Puegnago fair, with the sponsorship of Anag, the National Association of Grappa tasters, Brescia section.
The historic halls of Palazzo Tebaldini
This prestigious event, for the first time in the history of the Fair, from August 31 to September 3, is hosted in the ancient rooms of Palazzo Tebaldini, which becomes effectively the exhibition and service center connected to the Puegnago fair. The history of Puegnago is linked to Tebaldo da Puegnago, who in the 1500s received the castle from the Duke of Este as a gift for “summam fidelitatem” and for military services rendered.
The Tebaldini family and wine production
In a later era, the Tebaldini family followed, who since the early 1900s, have been the main producers of wine, particularly Groppello, as demonstrated by the old labels from that period. They played an important role by inspiring and emulating local farmers, especially in agricultural products that are now highly valued on the market.
The future of the historic building
For some time, the fate of this prestigious building has been under consideration by the Municipal Administration, which intends to acquire it to transform it into a distinguished space for exhibitions, promotional activities related to agricultural products, and public services. Mayor Gianfranco Comincioli expects to soon finalize a definitive agreement with the last descendants.
Goals of the event and initiatives
The purpose of the event is not only to select and debate among experts and industry professionals but also to involve visitors. Attendees will be invited to express their opinions through a specially prepared form. A major novelty this year is the Special Postage Cancellation granted by the Post Office during the fair days, featuring a logo that highlights the traditional Italian liqueur and brings it to international attention.
