Algae Bloom at Lake Riva Raises Concerns Over Water Quality

Better now than in the height of summer (as last year: when it appeared in July, to the eyes of thousands of tourists). But if it hadn’t returned at all, it would have been even better. Yes, because the little algae “anabaena” – which appeared yesterday morning in the port of the Fraglia in Riva – was truly nothing to miss.

Description of the algae

Yellowish, spread in large patches among boats and moorings, the single-celled algae reproduces a visual effect in the lake similar to yellow flour when poured into a pot before setting into polenta. A nebulous cloud in the water that is decidedly unsightly, and – worst of all – capable of inspiring suspicion in viewers, who may not necessarily be experts in lake matters, that this sludge is caused by some obscene discharge.

Control measures

Last year, those responsible for monitoring the health of the lake said they were studying it.
