Alpini Celebration in Pozzolengo Highlights Won Today

A splendid sunny day accompanied the Alpini celebration in Pozzolengo. The usual annual event, but with some new features. For example, there was the official debut of the new group leader Renato Gandini: after 16 years, Germano Caiola participated as a simple black pen.

There was also the participation of mons. Angelo Bazzani, president of the Fondazione Pro Juventute Don Gnocchi. The presence of the clergyman had a dual significance: Don Carlo Gnocchi was a Servant of God, but also an Alpini chaplain, and furthermore, there is the story of Palazzo Albertini, bequeathed to the Fondazione Don Gnocchi by the last owner, Isora Pancaldi Albertini.

The Foundation is studying with the Municipality how to recover the historic palace. Returning to the celebration, at 10:45 a procession set off that first reached the cemetery, for laying flowers at the Memorial monument and on the tomb of Vittorio Zenegaglia, one of the group’s founders, then the monument to the Fallen and the one to the feathers.

Subsequently, on the way back from the cemetery, the procession stopped in front of the home of Enrico Casturi, a nonagenarian Bersagliere who until a few years ago played the troba in the fanfare of the piumati infantry: the Alpine fanfare dedicated a piece to him.

At 11 a.m., the Mass was celebrated by monsignor Bazzani, who in his homily recalled that the Alpini, after fulfilling their duty by sacrificing themselves for the Homeland, continue to work as civilians in social initiatives. At the end, the prayer of the Alpino, read with emphasis by Enzo Terraroli.

All of this was accompanied by the parish choir directed by Renato Gandini. At the end, everyone gathered in Aldo Zenegaglia’s cellar to enjoy wine and a flavorful spit-roast.
