Alto Garda Ecological Guard Training Course Begins February

Course Schedule and Venue

The program includes nine sessions, with the inaugural appointment scheduled for Friday in February and the final session set for Friday, April 6. These two months will be intense, during which the volunteer ecological guards responsible for the Alto Garda area will have the chance to brush up on their knowledge and skills. Participants in the workshop will be guided by several experts from different sectors.

The lessons will take place at the Comunità Parco headquarters, in Villa di Gargnano (via Oliva 32), always starting at 8:30 p.m. The opening, as mentioned, will be on a Friday evening with remarks from the organization’s president, Bruno Faustini, along with Battista Berardinelli and Alessandro Andreatta assessors, as well as Beatrice Zambiasi, general secretary of the Comunità montana.

Lesson Program

The course will continue on February 9 with Mario Tonincelli and Piero Fiaccavento: basics of astronomy and Gardesana meteorology, along with observations at the Cima Rest observatory. On Wednesday, February 14, Piero Fiaccavento and Piergiorgio Merigo will describe the territory of the Park, including underground environments.

Merigo previously led the Gargnano speleological group that several years ago discovered a new cavity inside Mount Pizzocolo, retrieving the remains of a bear which will be on display at the Centro informazioni del Parco in Tignale. Piercarlo Belotti, Nicola Gallinaro, and Adriano Cobelli will be involved on Monday, February 19. The topics include botanical, faunal aspects, and livestock in the Park’s territory.

On Friday, March 2, Alfredo Bonomi and Mirelia Scudellari will take the floor to discuss the ancient trades of the Park and archaeological aspects. Topics related to lake and tourism will be covered on Friday, March 9, by Franceschino Risatti and Ruggero Bontempi, while on the 16th, Giuseppe Scarazzini and Renato Cobelli will speak.

Their presentation will focus on the Venetian domination (1426-1797) and the presence of churches and convents along the western shore of Lake Garda. Herfried Schlude will discuss (on March 23) some historic events related to the period between Napoleon and the end of the Second World War. The course concludes with the award of participation certificates (Friday, April 6) by Faustini and Andreatta.
