Andrea Demurtas has claimed victory in the Sprint Race Rothoblaas, an event that marked the opening of the 43rd Meeting del Garda Optimist, organized by the Fraglia Vela Riva. The competition, held on Saturday, saw the young sailor triumph in a knockout series, reinforcing his excellent form following recent performances in Marina di Ravenna. Today’s schedule was supposed to include additional races, but it was canceled due to a lack of wind, making the standings final and awarding Demurtas the prestigious trophy.
On the podium alongside him, Jesper Karlsen, another athlete from Fraglia Vela Riva, secured second place, while British sailor Isla Hutchinson was the top female competitor. During the awards ceremony, which was attended by prominent figures such as the president of Fraglia Vela Riva and representatives from Rothoblaas, the significance of innovative events like the Sprint Race in promoting sailing was emphasized. The focus now shifts to the Country Cup, scheduled for Wednesday, April 16.
