Anffas Celebrates 20 Years with New Projects for Disabled Adults in Desenzano

Two socio-educational centers, a newly launched autonomy training service on a pilot basis, and the project “Horizon” for employment placement. Additionally: assistance for parents, theater activities, solidarity initiatives, summer camps, and a newsletter. This is Anffas, the Association of families of children and adults with subnormal disabilities, which is celebrating its twentieth year of activity this year.

It does so backed by the results achieved, as well as future projects focused today on the construction of the new premises for the Centro socio-educativo di Desenzano centro. The initiative has been included in the Municipality’s budget forecast because the current headquarters on via Gramsci is owned by the local Nursing Home. The technical office has already prepared the project draft in which Anffas will invest the surpluses from recent years.

Anffas Activities and Projects

News, financial reports, and projects were presented to the association members by President Gianfranco Bertolotti during the last assembly. Anffas opened its first year for young people in 1980 and has been working for 20 years on behalf of disabled adults.

Currently, it cares for 25 individuals at the S. Martino della Battaglia socio-educational center, 17 at the Desenzano center, and 9 attend the autonomy training service activated last September. The ” Horizon” project for the employment integration of disabled persons, promoted by the Provincia di Brescia with EU funds, has also taken off and is attended by 4 people.

Anffas employs 17 educators, two coordinators, one operator, and 8 pro-lifers, in addition to volunteers. In particular, the socio-educational centers will remain open for 23 days this year, until the end of July.

In recent years, Anffas has renewed its vehicle fleet and now has two minivans and a car, making transfers safer. Unfortunately, the S. Martino center—as reported by the president—has been targeted by thieves and vandals.

The Desenzano section also assists the parents of disabled adults with bureaucratic procedures, promotes theater activities, and participates in city events and markets to offer products produced in various workshops, notably carpentry and bookbinding. Summer stays organized in the mountains and at the sea. The publishing section also produces an attractive newsletter titled “L’Agorà“.
