Arco-Torbole Truck Route Deal to Bypass Traffic Disruption
The new bypass of Arco is on its way, and with the classic compromise (the rotation), the obstacle of the route to impose on the hundreds of heavy trucks daily traveling from Busa to Vallagarina has been overcome.
The mayors of Arco and Torbole have agreed to allow the highway trucks to pass from October to Easter, from Linfano to Torbole and Nago. During the other months, they will be directed via Maza. The new routes will be enforced starting October 1st.
Meanwhile, trucks reaching Rovereto will continue to travel through the road to Torbole or via Maza. The latter is now prohibited to vehicles, mostly originating from Riva and surrounding areas, while the few trucks coming from Dro and Sarche have unrestricted access.
Negotiations and Decisions
The agreement between Arco and Torbole was not easy to reach, as it was finalized yesterday after an interminable meeting lasting over two hours at the Arco municipal building in Varignano. The meeting was attended by the local delegation – composed of Mayor Veronesi, Vice Mayor Prandi, and police chief Travaglia – as well as the delegation from Torbole – including Mayor Parolari and the head of municipal police – along with Riva’s vice mayor Matteotti, provincial councilor Casagranda (with engineers Rigo and Martorana), and his colleague Benedetti.
The hard-fought «okay», which will be reviewed in a few years with the construction of the roundabout at the Nago junction, is thanks to the determined mediation of Councilor Casagranda. The well-known resolve of the Lases-based commendatore finally helped to soften, at least partially, the clearly municipal visions of both parties.
The Causes and Future Perspectives
It should not be forgotten that the lack of an agreement on where to route trucks to Rovereto was one of the reasons that caused the delayed opening last week of an already completed bypass. However, the hope of finding a definitive solution has gone «bust».
After initial proposals to route heavy vehicles through Torbole and Maza at scheduled times, the negotiation has focused on a winter route for the lakeside area and a summer route for Bolognano and Maza. The agreement will last two years, until the construction of the roundabout at Nago.
