ASI 2026 Historic Motoring Award Given to Museo Nicolis Founder

Museo Nicolis ASI Award

The ASI 2026 Historic Motoring Award has been posthumously conferred to Luciano Nicolis, the founder of the Museo Nicolis in Villafranca di Verona. The recognition was presented to his children, Silvia and Thomas Nicolis, by Alberto Scuro, president of the Automotoclub Storico Italiano (ASI) and FIVA, at the Misano World Circuit. The ceremony took place during ASI Fest 2026, marking the 60th anniversary of the association.

A Lifetime Dedicated to Vehicle Preservation

The national award honors a lifelong commitment to the research, recovery, and conservation of mobility artifacts. Born in 1933 and passing away in 2012, Nicolis began his career in his family’s paper recycling business. Alongside this work, he cultivated an interest in automobiles, motorcycles, and bicycles, eventually amassing a private collection that contributed to the protection of Italy’s technical and cultural heritage.

The Museo Nicolis in Villafranca di Verona

The collection became the foundation for the Museo Nicolis, which opened in Villafranca di Verona in 2000. Today, the facility houses ten distinct collections focusing on the history of transportation and engineering. The exhibits document the evolution of the automotive industry and its impact on society throughout the 20th century. Receiving the award, Silvia and Thomas Nicolis emphasized the responsibility of preserving their father’s vision and keeping the historical heritage accessible to the public.
