A 43-year-old Indian man with a criminal record was arrested in the act by the Carabinieri last Sunday in Castel Goffredo on charges of attempted extortion and aggravated personal injury against a fellow countryman. According to reports, the 43-year-old facilitated the illegal entry of another Indian citizen, aged 29, into Italy, and subsequently demanded increasingly higher payments as reimbursement. During a confrontation that took place late in the morning, the assailant intercepted the victim while he was cycling, cut him off, and struck him repeatedly on the head with a motorcycle helmet while further threatening him to hand over money.
The prompt intervention of bystanders who alerted emergency services at 112 allowed local Carabinieri to arrive quickly at the scene and apprehend the assailant. The victim was assisted by paramedics from 118 and transported to the hospital in Castiglione delle Stiviere: although his condition is serious, it is not life-threatening. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had previously been subjected to threats and violence related to his aggressor’s financial demands. The arrested individual has been transferred to the Mantova prison awaiting the validation of his arrest.
