The incessant rains of the past 24 hours have caused a further rise in the water level of Lake Garda. Despite the increase in the outflows at the Salionze regulating building, which have increased from 100 to 150 cubic meters per second between May 16th and 18th, the maximum allowed by regulations, the lake continues to rise. Since Thursday, May 16th, when the outflows were increased, the water level has risen by two centimeters, reaching +138 centimeters above the hydrological zero point in Peschiera.
The Secretary General of the Garda Community, Pierlucio Ceresa, emphasized that the hydraulic protection of the Mincio River does not allow for outflows exceeding 150 cubic meters per second from the lake. In comparison, other Lombardy lakes such as Lake Maggiore and Lake Como have outflows of 890 and 430 cubic meters per second respectively. Currently, the water inflows into Lake Garda are calculated at 146 cubic meters per second and the reservoir is at 102% capacity.
