Baldo Mountain Huts Exhibit Explores Pasture Life and Heritage

A selection of about thirty photographs illustrating the features of the Baldense mountain hut, its history, and the life that took place there. Additionally, objects used in everyday life, traditionally employed in the processing of milk and its derivatives. This is the material that makes up the exhibition «The Ships of Baldo. Mountain Huts Between Past and Present», a traveling exhibition organized to tell both the history of a structure and a way of life that has characterized the Monte Baldo region from Roman times to the present day.

Contents of the Exhibition

An accompanying pamphlet is divided into three topics: pastoralism and alpine grazing on Monte Baldo; the Baldense mountain hut, primarily a structural description of the building; and the traditional processing of milk in the Baldense mountain huts.

There are 54 mountain huts throughout the Baldo area, distributed within the territories of the Municipalities of Caprino, San Zeno, Brenzone, and Ferrara, covering approximately 5,400 hectares of pasture. Many are municipally owned, while others belong to private individuals.
