Baldo Park Support Inches Forward Amid Local Controversy
No disaster for the economy. On the contrary, the creation of the Baldo National Park will serve as a brake on depopulation and as a driver for a revival in which many hope but that has not yet begun.
Legambiente does not agree to silently approve the concerns recently expressed by Marco Truzzoli, the Provincial Councilor for mountain policies, and by AN parliamentarian Alberto Giorgetti. They counter point by point those who see the establishment of a conservation area as a real threat.
History and Regulations of the Baldo Park
«Firstly, the list produced by the Senate does not come out of nowhere. The Baldo Park has been discussed for over twenty years», clarifies Michele Bertucco, president of the association, «and its implementation is also foreseen in the Regional Territorial Coordination Plan approved in 1992.
Unfortunately, out of the 13 areas between parks and reserves approved in that document, not a single one has been officially established, with the exception of the Po Delta Park, which, however, has been distorted in its implementation». Legambiente also cites the Framework Law 394 of 1991 that regulates parks; this law establishes a close collaboration between the Region and local communities during the park’s establishment process and also provides for adequate funding for their management.
Legambiente’s Position
«In short, I don’t understand so much concern, since the Senate’s draft bill contains only a guideline and no measure imposed from above», states Bertucco.
