Two men have been arrested following a attempted bank robbery that took place in Valeggio sul Mincio on May 13. The operation, conducted by the Carabinieri of the Operational Section of the Radiomobile Unit of Bergamo, resulted in the arrest of a 49-year-old resident of the Bergamo province and a 66-year-old residing abroad, both of whom were already known to law enforcement. The two robbers, armed with a utility knife and wearing masks, attempted to force the bank staff to hand over cash, but after failing to access the money locked in the safes, they fled in a stolen car.
The investigations initiated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Verona enabled the authorities to track down the suspects through surveillance and observations in the lower Bergamo area. The two were identified and arrested in Trezzo sull’Adda. The investigating judge at the Verona Court validated the arrest and ordered their pre-trial detention in prison. Currently, the two criminals are held in the Bergamo prison while investigators continue to verify any connections to similar incidents.
