Bardolino Approves €640,000 Debt for Falcone-Borsellino School

The municipality of Bardolino has formally closed a dispute over the expansion and renovation of the lower secondary school “Falcone-Borsellino,” approving a debt recognition and a settlement agreement. The decision, passed by the city council, ends a case that had grown to more than €3.7 million when the new administration took office, linked to serious structural problems affecting the building.

The issues began with the project launched in November 2021, after which water infiltration, construction defects, and structural concerns were reported within months. By April 2024, the school’s gym had become unusable. After the new mayor, Daniele Bertasi, took office in June 2024, the administration commissioned a preventive technical assessment at the Court of Verona involving all parties responsible, aiming to clarify the causes and responsibilities and avoid prolonged litigation.

As a result, the settlement reduced the contractor’s initial claims, with the council approving a total recognized debt of €640,000 plus VAT: €500,000 to be paid by the municipality and the remainder by the other involved parties. The council also approved an additional out-of-budget debt of €64,599.88 plus VAT related to a price revision not previously committed in the accounts, clearing the way for work to restore the gym’s functionality.
