Bardolino Novello 2000 Set for Launch Amid High Expectations

There is excitement in the wine industry. Alongside the great satisfaction of producers for the excellent quality of the grapes, resulting in an exceptional harvest from a qualitative perspective, there is now keen anticipation in wineries for the Novello, the wine that first signals the characteristics and features of the 2000 wine production.

In addition to being the first wine of the latest harvest, the Novelli have the prerogative, acquired through carbonic maceration, to be ready for consumption by the first decade of November and to present pronounced features of fruitiness and freshness.

Vinification Method and Celebration Dates

The technological method of “carbonic maceration” was adopted by French Beaujolais producers about fifty years ago and arrived in Italy quite late, in the early 1980s.

Bardolino Novello was the first to obtain the DOC within this wine category, so much so that this year it promotes the 14th edition of the Novello festival scheduled for the first decade of November, with a preview on October 28th for a press conference presenting both the Novello and the Superiore vintage ’99, the latter of which will be released on the market on November 1st and aims to add a “g” to the DOC, a symbol of guarantee.

Projections and Expectations for 2000

Focusing on Novello 2000, as mentioned, there is excitement because producers are now certain that it will be an exceptional vintage in every aspect regarding the end-of-millennium production.

«A confidence supported», admits Consorzio tutela director Giulio Liut, «by the excellent ripening of the grapes at harvest time, the sugar level reached, and the absence of molds». This is confirmed by winemakers who, since the end of September, have been meticulously monitoring the entire process leading to the certification by Consorzio tutela, thus allowing them to use the logo with the silver moon at the first eighth and the golden sun with the inscription “Bardolino Novello” in a unified font, framed in a red and gold border.

The expected production is 12,000 hectoliters, equivalent to 1,600,000 bottles produced by 29 wineries, with 30 percent destined for export: Canada, USA, Germany, and France.

Export Policy and Market Position

Among the Italian DOCs for Novello wines, Bardolino holds the national lead in production.
