Bardolino Red Becomes Veneto’s First DOCG Wine After Approval

The Bardolino wine, as expected, has in fact become the first red wine from Veneto to obtain the docg. The definitive recognition – following the approval from producers, winemakers, and bottlers during the public hearing last January – was given by the National Wine Committee.

At the Rome meeting last Thursday, there was unanimous voting regarding both the modification of the production regulations for the doc and the introduction of the docg for Bardolino Superiore. The recognition comes after five years of experimentation by the Consorzio tutela and with producers long involved in initiatives to optimize viticulture.

The decision was met with satisfaction, although some distinctions were raised, particularly concerning the inclusion, albeit in very limited quantities, of new grape varieties for the production of Bardolino Superiore.
