Bedizzole: Man Sentenced to 3 Years and 8 Months for Fatal Hit-and-Run of 29-Year-Old Last November. The legal proceedings concerning Gianbattista Guatta, a 61-year-old from Bedizzole, have concluded with a plea bargain. He was found responsible for the fatal accident that occurred on November 15, 2024, resulting in the death of Gaston Nicolas Urgoiti, a 29-year-old of Uruguayan descent. Judge Cesare Bonamartini accepted the defense’s request, imposing a final sentence of 3 years and 8 months in prison, along with a four-year suspension of his driver’s license and a five-year ban from public office. The Studio3A law firm, representing the Urgoiti family, expressed disappointment over what they consider an inadequate sentence given the severity of the incident.
The tragedy unfolded while Urgoiti was walking along Provincial Road 4 towards Bedizzole. He was struck by a van driven by Guatta, who did not stop to offer assistance and later confessed to family members that he had hit something but did not stop out of fear. Emergency services were alerted by family members who arrived at the scene of the accident; Urgoiti died the following day at the Spedali Civili hospital in Brescia. Guatta was located shortly after by the carabinieri and subjected to a breathalyzer test, which revealed a blood alcohol level three times over the legal limit, leading to his arrest pending trial.
