In Lombardy, citizens will also be able to deposit their advance directives at healthcare facilities, thanks to the approval of a motion during the Regional Budget Session. Promoted by the Luca Coscioni Association and signed by councilors Paladini and Palestra (Civic Pact), the measure allows individuals to express their wishes regarding medical treatments directly in hospitals and local health authorities (ASL), thereby expanding the options already provided by Law 219/2017, which limited the deposit of Advance Healthcare Directives (DAT) to municipalities and notaries.
Cristiana Zerosi, coordinator of the Luca Coscioni Association in Lombardy, emphasized the significance of this step in ensuring easier access to advance directives and better information for citizens. The Regional Council has allocated €100,000 to implement these procedures, recognizing the central role of healthcare facilities in promoting the right to self-determination. The Association will continue to monitor the implementation of the motion to ensure that residents of Lombardy can fully exercise their rights regarding advance healthcare directives.
