A white-faced saki is the first birth of the year at the Parco Natura Viva in Bussolengo, marking a significant event for the most populous colony in Italy. The little monkey, whose sex has yet to be determined, is accompanied by eight relatives and other species such as prairie dogs and white-faced uakaris. Until it reaches five months of age, it will be carried by its mother, Guya, who shows great experience in caring for her young.
The park is conducting studies to better understand the behavior of this tree-dwelling species, particularly regarding hand preference during various activities. Research indicates a general tendency to use the left hand for complex tasks, while mothers may behave differently due to their protective instincts toward their offspring. These studies are crucial for contributing to the conservation of the white-faced saki and enhancing its survival in the wild.
