A case of bovine dermatitis has been confirmed on a farm in the municipality of Porto Mantovano, prompting Lombardy to implement urgent measures in accordance with European and national regulations, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. The farm has been placed under seizure, and protection zones of 20 km and surveillance zones of 50 km have been established, where the movement of cattle for fairs, exhibitions, and markets is prohibited. The transportation of manure and slurry from these areas is also restricted, although health protocols are being prepared to allow such movement.
To ensure the continuity of the agri-food sector, exemptions have been established that permit the transfer of live animals from disease-free areas to slaughterhouses within the restricted zones. Raw milk from the affected areas cannot be destined for human consumption but may be transported to authorized facilities for processing. The regional agriculture assessor emphasized the importance of the measures taken to contain the disease, which does not transmit to humans, thus ensuring the safety of the dairy supply chain. Clinical investigations are ongoing for all animals that have recently been moved, with continuous monitoring of the epidemiological situation.
