Brescia Breaks Ground on New Wildlife Rescue Center
The groundbreaking ceremony for Brescia’s new Wildlife and Exotic Animal Recovery Center took place on Wednesday, marking a major upgrade to provincial conservation efforts. Located adjacent to the Provincial Police headquarters on via Romiglia, the facility will include diagnostic and surgical areas, laboratories, and quarantine zones, with dedicated entrances for staff and visitors.
Spanning over 6,000 square meters, the project reuses existing structures and adds new enclosures for ungulates and small carnivores, as well as aviaries and a flight tunnel for birds of prey. The €1.7 million center, funded mainly by the province with regional support, is expected to open in early 2027 and will serve the judicial authorities. It aims to support the activities of the 32-officer Wildlife Unit, which recovered around 2,000 animals in 2025.
