Brescia Clergy and Officials Visit Lombard Exhibition at Santa Giulia Center
The Brescia clergy, accompanied by mons. Giulio Sanguineti, also visited the exhibition “The Future of the Lombards” held at the Museo di Santa Giulia, via Musei 81/b, until November 19, 2000.
Almost a hundred diocesan priests filled the auditorium of the complex, along with a small group of nuns. After a prayer session led by the Bishop, speeches were delivered by Mayor Paolo Corsini, Angelo Rampinelli, representing the Cab Foundation, Renata Stradiotti, director of the civic museums and one of the exhibition curators, and Carlo Bertelli.
The Santa Giulia complex and the themes of the exhibition
The Santa Giulia complex was, until the Napoleonic suppression, a monastery, an important place of worship and prayer. Yesterday’s events reiterated the connection between Lombard culture and the Christian soul of Europe, as emphasized during the various speeches.
The exhibition, officially opened on Sunday, is already proving successful: over 1,200 visitors on the first day. Among the displayed items are priceless codices, jewels, icons, and silver artifacts from the Lombard period.
