Brescia Pizzeria Offers Big Brother-Inspired Menu Featuring Show Characters
Marina, sweet but also capable of being spicy, in short, ambiguous: the pairing of honey and Gorgonzola suits her. And then Lorenzo, the last evicted, who always wanted to have his say on everything: for him, a well-crafted menu is fine, as long as the strict presence of parsley is maintained. And what to say about the sweet Francesca? A spread of Nutella, while the good Maria Antonietta deserves jam and fresh fruit. Rocket lettuce is instead the common ingredient between Cristina and Pietro. After all, was their relationship born or not under the eyes of millions of viewers? The facts and misdeeds of the Big Brother protagonists end up at the table. Actually, in a pizzeria.
The pizzeria and the Big Brother-inspired menu
The inspiration comes from a provincial pizzaiolo who has reflected his media impressions on an “alternative” menu. “You see them there, always there, making a fuss. You study their behavior. You think about how to express their character, and suddenly the idea strikes me. Just like that. Customers like it.” Paolo Vecchia, 30 years old, laughs as he moves between the wood-fired oven where he shapes the round doughs and the refrigerated storage where he fetches the ingredients. His kingdom is the family pizzeria in Sabbio Chiese, a town of 3,000 inhabitants in Brescia Province.
The venue faces the main road leading to Madonna di Campiglio, and inside, the passion for this year’s TV phenomenon is being consumed bite by bite. At the top of the menu list is the “Big Brother” pizza with tomato, mozzarella, truffle, and a centered egg: representing the camera’s eye. Following are the protagonists: from Marina to Cristina: spicy due to her relationship with Pietro, yet also full of emotion.
So, the pizza bearing her name, with tomato sauce and melting mozzarella, is topped with slices of chili salami and a handful of arugula, identical to that of the “Pizza Pietro”, the declared bully. Her pizza also includes fresh sausage and scamorza cheese. Then there are the “evicted”: Francesca, with Nutella and puffed rice (perhaps because they say that since she was kicked out of the show, she’s “treating herself”); Roberta with a multicolored pizza made of fresh tomato, mozzarella, spinach, peppers, black olives, and peas.
The parsley is the “strong” ingredient of Lorenzo’s pizza, which, for the rest, is prepared with the skill expected from a chef. Meanwhile, the sophisticated Rocco opts for sheets of bresaola and cream at will. Sergio, the handsome one who depilates, prefers a pizza with pear and pecorino. Lastly, the Salvo pizza: for him, a classic “round”: tomato, mozzarella, eggplants, and seasonal salads.
The television screen is notably absent from the room: “Never watch TV while eating,” says the pizzaiolo Paolo. “It distracts the gaze and takes up space that should be left for conversation.”
