Brescia Tourism Groups Oppose Trento’s Lake Garda Road Closure

Meanwhile, the “Riviera dei Limoni” consortium, which brings together over 300 tourism businesses on the Brescia side of Lake Garda, promises to fight back. “The sudden and unilateral decision of the province of Trento,” writes president Franceschino Risatti, “not only took us by surprise, but also dealt a fatal blow to the prospects of the upcoming tourist season for the western shore of the lake.”

Reactions to the decision and the consortium’s stance

We consider the decision to close the existing road and construct a tunnel, which will be ready in two years, to be hasty and not reflective of the actual situation. This would mean killing tourism from Limone to Salò. Such a prospect opposes us and urges us to undertake decisive and extreme actions in defense of our survival.

The sight of our sacrosanct right to work trampled and the absolute affront shown to civil dialogue make us foresee a future full of uncertainties, but we can guarantee from now on that we will not bow to abuse, intimidation, or bullying.

Decades of sacrifice and hard work cannot be jeopardized — thunders Risatti — by the hasty, unilateral decisions made by the Trentino administration, without first consulting us. He emphasizes that clashes and stubbornness do not help solve problems, and hopes that in the spirit of cooperation that has always driven us, we can find satisfactory solutions for safety and tourism as well.
