The season of the Marrone di San Zeno Dop is kicking off with excellent prospects in terms of both quality and quantity, as announced by the Protection Consortium. Harvesting will begin in the week of October 6, starting from the lower areas and then extending to the higher plots. The president of the Consortium, Stefano Bonafini, stated that a production of at least 150 quintals of certified organic fruits is expected, arriving earlier than last year. This variety is distinguished by its thin, shiny skin, and the harvesting will be carried out using both traditional and mechanical methods. Coinciding with the start of the season, the chestnut festival will also return, taking place in San Zeno di Montagna on October 18 and 19, and continuing over the following weekends until November 2. During the event, stands run by chestnut growers will allow visitors to taste the marroni paired with chestnut beer. Among the new features of the 2025 edition will be the inauguration of a new chestnut cooker and exclusive merchandise such as branded canvas bags. The mascot Bruno, a squirrel symbolizing the local chestnut growers, will lead the celebrations aimed at enhancing not only the product but also the culture and identity of the local community.
