The construction site of the Brescia-Verona high-speed railway in Calcinato has reached an important milestone with the delivery of the sleepers needed for the construction of the tracks. After five years since the start of the works, which began in August 2019, the project enters a new crucial phase. The sleepers, visible from the road at the base camp in Calcinato, represent a fundamental step towards the completion of the high-speed railway line that will connect Brescia to Verona by 2026.
The allocation of the contract for the sleepers was complex due to the sharp increase in construction material costs, influenced by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. It took three attempts to award the contract, which was eventually won by a temporary consortium of companies led by Gcf Generale Costruzioni Ferroviarie Spa. Now, with the sleepers delivered and ready to be positioned along the 48 km stretch between Brescia Est and Verona Ovest, the Tav project is progressing rapidly towards its realization.
