The trial concerning Calcinatello has been updated, involving Petrit Gega, a 53-year-old Albanian accused of the murder of his fellow countryman, 33-year-old Alfonso Kola, which occurred on May 31, 2023. During the hearing at the Brescia Court of Assizes, key testimonies emerged, including that of Gega’s brother, who revealed previous incidents of domestic violence in Albania. The prosecution challenged Gega’s defense, which claimed that the murder was influenced by hallucinations; instead, it is argued that the attack stemmed from a personal rivalry.
An important witness, an employee of the Papagal bar where the attack took place, confirmed seeing Gega repeatedly stab Kola. Furthermore, it was revealed that in the days leading up to the murder, Gega had already exhibited aggressive behavior towards the victim. While awaiting the next hearings scheduled for March 24 and April 17, Gega remains under psychiatric observation at the Monza prison.
