Calcinato has reported an act of vandalism against the red bench symbolizing the fight against violence towards women, provoking outrage within the local community. This emblem of resistance to gender-based violence, located near the town hall, was damaged by unknown individuals who scratched the inscription on the plaque, rendering it illegible. The municipal administration has expressed strong condemnation of this act, emphasizing that such actions offend not only the message of respect and dignity represented by the bench but also the entire community.
The mayor of Calcinato, Vincenza Corsini, stated that “even if it were a prank, such an act is cowardly and unacceptable,” drawing attention to the fundamental values of freedom and justice just days before April 25th. The municipality has already announced plans to restore the damaged plaque and reaffirms its commitment to promoting a culture of respect and non-violence.
