Canoeists Urge More Water Release in Sarca River for Ecology and Tourism

Just a little more water: this is what the Titanic association requests, which organized yesterday morning a meeting on the Sarca River near the Roman bridge in Ceniga.

The group of canoeists is “navigating” the waterways of Trentino to try to raise public awareness about the need to increase the minimum vital water release.

Last year, a similar demonstration secured a few cubic meters of extra water for the Sarca, but it still isn’t enough.

Goals and Proposals of the Canoeists

“Ideally,” explained Forer from Titanic, “we would need an additional 3 cubic meters of water per day in the river, which is still sufficient for minimal river life.

We fully understand the productive needs, but if the Fies power plant released at least 3-4 cubic meters, it wouldn’t cause problems for Enel and could allow for the creation of a real river park.

The idea of Titanic is precisely to give tourists the opportunity to descend the Sarca in a canoe from Dro to Arco.

“If there were just a little more water,” continues Forer, “this stretch of the river would become a perfect ‘school field’ for beginners.

Let’s remember that exploiting this type of activity on the Noce brings about around 3 billion euros a year to the Val di Sole.

Soon, there will be a meeting in the Province where Forer and his friends are hopeful.
