Cantalago 2001 Final Night in Limone: Brescia Contestants and Guests

Final appointment at Cantalago 2001

Penultimate event, the last in Brescia territory, with Cantalago 2001, the singing contest that has enlivened Lake Garda’s summer for six years. The usual caravan of singers, comedians, dancers, and musicians arrives tonight, Saturday, August 18, in Limone sul Garda (21:30 on Lungolago Marconi, free entry).

The Limone municipal authorities wanted to do things on a grand scale, hiring for the evening, which will be hosted as planned by former Miss Italia Susanna Huckstep, Jerry Calà, and possibly Anna Falchi. The concert by Gianluca Grignani has been canceled, however.

Format and Participants

The show’s format is now well known: amateur singers seeking success will perform original songs and covers of famous pieces. In each of the two sections of the contest, we find Brescia-based singers.

The struggle to secure a place in the final in the original songs category will indeed be between Stefano Peli from Concesio (“Se ci sei tu”) and the Verona twins Barbara and Stefania Marogna (“In the search for a mate”).

Last rounds are also underway for the interpretive contest, with a four-way challenge among seventeen-year-old Siria Sbardolini from Brescia (“Riguarda noi” by Giorgia), who has already won the evening in Sirmione; Austrian Michael Buchacher (“Teddy bear” by Elvis Presley); Luca Stella from Roverbella (“L’emozione non ha voce” by Celentano); and Simona Tedeschi from Verona (“I will always love you” by Whitney Houston).

Guests and Final Selections

Among the guests of the evening are cabaret artist Lucio Gardin and Elena Tavernin, who won at Limone in 2000 at the Festival del Garda.

Meanwhile, on Thursday evening, in the beautiful open-air arena in the Baden Powell Garden of Salò, two Brescia-based contestants, fifteen-year-old Morena Lusenti from Manerba sul Garda and Antonella Bacchini from Brescia, have already secured their tickets for the final in Riva del Garda (August 27 in Piazza Tre Novembre).

In Salò, the provincial selections for the Miss Italia Contest took place. The most beautiful, who earned the title of Miss Salò and the right to compete in the regional selections, is 17-year-old Luana Vollero from Vobarno.
