A catamaran capsized in the waters of Sirmione on Lake Garda due to bad weather and rough waves. The incident occurred on August 16, 2024, around 2:40 PM, when a German tourist noticed the situation and alerted the Salò Coast Guard. After approximately 40 minutes of searching, the naval unit GC B98 rescued the two castaways, German tourists aged 45 and 50, over a mile and a half from the shore.
The two men were transported to Moniga without the need for medical assistance. The Coast Guard took the opportunity to reiterate the importance of paying attention to weather forecasts before engaging in boating or sporting activities on the lake, emphasizing that conditions can change rapidly and become dangerous.
