Carabinieri Call Scams Targeting Garda Hoteliers and Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines related to the force.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, police, fire brigade, or municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — by dialing 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

once they have the sum of money, disappears.
