Carabinieri Sniffer Dog Detects Drugs at Italian Schools
“Come in before entering the classroom, come here and let me smell you”. That is exactly what happened yesterday to the students of Enaip in Arco and Itgc Floriani in Riva, who, upon arriving at school, found the Feger dog from the Nucleo Cinofilo dei Carabinieri di Laives, accompanied by a good number of police officers, waiting for them.
One by one, Feger carefully checked the students arriving one after another, and twice, the trained German Shepherd sniffed out and detected two joints hidden in the pockets of two youths aged 17 and 19, who apparently intended to create a Jamaican atmosphere in their math lessons.
Checks and Reports
For the two students, an immediate report was made to the Commissariato del Governo. Regarding the Jamaican atmosphere, in the past fifteen days, the Carabinieri of the Riva company have tried to dispel it with a series of checks involving four high schools in the C9 district.
This effort was carried out in agreement with the same school principals and aimed at curbing the spread of soft drugs in classrooms. “We are witnessing a certain infiltration of drugs into schools,” explains Captain Oronzo Console, commander of the Riva company, “but it is important not to criminalize education.”
For this reason, and to avoid unnecessary and counterproductive confrontations, I have decided not to disclose the names of the schools attended by the two reported students. Schools must remain a “clean” place, and I am not only referring to soft drugs.
To achieve this, we are committed to a series of initiatives aimed at informing and educating the younger students. Thanks to the strong collaboration of principals and directors, recently, we have been engaging with middle school classes to discuss topics such as drug education, safe driving, and civic education.
The events of yesterday are the latest in a series of checks, but the Carabinieri of Riva plan to continue these preventive controls periodically.
