Castellaro Flower Festival Highlights Local Flora and Cultural Events
Promoted by the Amici di Castellaro cultural association, with the sponsorship of the provinces of Mantova, Brescia, Verona, and other public entities, the Flower Festival, now in its tenth edition, attracts thousands of visitors to the village of Castellaro Lagusello, mainly from Lombardy, Veneto, and Emilia-Romagna.
The originality of the festival lies in the market stalls scattered within the historic center, which display objects related to flowers, and in the town’s decorations with plants, shrubs, and flowers according to a project that aims to highlight every corner.
Initiatives and Program
On Wednesday, April 25, an event will be held featuring naturalist Giorgio Persico, who will speak about “The Edible Herbs of Mantovano,” and Dr. Pedro Benjamin, who will discuss “Herbs and Health.”
In the afternoon, in the recently renovated Uccellanda courtyard, the musical group La Rossignol will perform a concert-show. Dressed in Renaissance costumes and playing very curious period instruments, the musicians will create the atmospheres typical of ancient courtly and popular festivals using a repertoire of original music, involving the audience present as well.
On Sunday, April 29, in the civic hall, a roundtable discussion will be organized on “Local parks of supra-municipal interest: an opportunity for the Garda Morainic Amphitheatre.”
On Tuesday, May 1, another event regarding the territory will take place: “Castles and Pieve Churches of the Garda Area: A Heritage to Protect and Promote.” Experts, scholars, representatives from the Municipalities, the provinces of Mantova, Brescia, and Verona, and the Lombardy Region will participate in the two roundtables.
The Flower Festival, which will feature exhibitors and musicians on April 25, 29, and May 1, will also be an occasion to visit the Castellaro Natural Reserve and the permanent exhibition highlighting its most significant natural features.
