Castiglione Allocates €1.265B for Urban Utilities and Infrastructure Projects

Castiglione. The municipal administration has allocated a total of 1.265 billion euros in funding for various public utility interventions. In some cases, the work has already begun, for example at the cemetery; in others, a tender has been announced for September, such as for the cycling path along via Beschi.

The latter project will be the most costly for the city’s finances, although, thanks to a regional contribution, the expenditure borne by the municipality will be half of the total 500 million euros required. The bicycle path will run along via Beschi, up to the intersection with viale Silvio Longhi, on the left side of the street. The path will be separated from the roadway by a flowerbed with tall trees, lighting, and automatic irrigation.

Interventions at the Cemetery and Restoration Works

Just under 381 million euros have been allocated to the first phase of the third lot of work at the neoclassical cemetery, mainly for restoring the family chapels on the north side, the first twenty. Humidity has literally devastated these structures, causing severe damage to the wooden roofs and masonry parts.

The work also involves the underground rooms: to avoid negative effects from contact between walls and the overlying soil, it has been decided to drain the earth and create an aerated cushion. To complete the third lot, work will also be carried out on the south side, with another twenty chapels, for a total financial commitment of over 700 million euros.

Sewerage Works and Other Interventions

Additionally, a tender has been announced for September 12 to award the construction of a segment of combined sewer in via Botteghino: a significant project, also from an economic perspective, requiring 260 million euros. The works will include the construction of a sewer collector, inspection and washing manholes, as well as connections for the new San Pietro kindergarten and the old and new cemeteries.

Another contract worth 80 million euros has been announced by the assessor Sereni for the realization of the sewer network and the renovation of the river pebble paving in vicolo Secchiana, a characteristic alley off via Chiassi. Approximately fifty million euros will be allocated to interventions and new lighting for buildings, streets, and municipal squares.
