Castiglione Approves €12B Public Works Plan, Including Sports Center and Green Spaces

Twelve billion in public works: this is the substantial and ambitious program outlined for the upcoming year by Castiglione‘s public works councilor, Innocente Sereni, during the last town council meeting.

During the approval of the forecast budget, the councilor presented the annual plan for public works and the three-year list of projects. In his report, the councilor explained how, within the limits of Castiglione‘s budget allocations, efforts were made to address all those interventions that had been anticipated within the planning phase.

Main Scheduled Interventions

The most significant project, both politically and economically, will be the construction of the sports center at Pirossina, which is expected to be the culmination of the anti-dump campaign. The cost will be 1.9 billion lire.

Immediately following is the renovation of the former Menghini nursery, which will require 1.2 billion lire from the administration, although funding has also been sought from Frisl. Regarding the Pip and Peep areas, one billion lire has been allocated for each.

Large-scale investments are also planned in the service infrastructure sector: 500 million for the library/media center, 700 million for the Gozzolina gymnasium, 600 million for the Belvedere gymnasium, and 500 million for the extraordinary maintenance of roads.

Interventions in Public Green Spaces and Urban Furniture

For public green areas and urban furniture, notable projects include the footbridge on Viale Boschetti (300 million), green spaces (8.5 billion), and connections from Piazzale Olimpo (250 million).

Congratulations for the choices made were expressed by the vice mayor and culture councilor, Giuseppe Bertoli, who stated that, for the first time, a comprehensive maintenance plan for schools has been included.

Bertoli also highlighted the municipality’s contribution of 300 million lire towards the construction of the new auditorium for the Gonzaga High School.

Future Planning Comments

Among those from the opposition benches commenting on the public works plan, some pointed out that many major interventions are scheduled for 2002 and 2003, years that will precede and follow the upcoming municipal elections.

These include extraordinary maintenance of roads, the development of green areas, the creation of bike and pedestrian paths, as well as Pip and Peep projects.

Sereni himself explained that the three-year plan is subject to significant changes, particularly depending on future administrative decisions.
