Castiglione Celebrates Saint Louis with Mass and Civic Procession
Today is certainly the highlight of the events for Castiglione delle Stiviere’s Aloisian Week.
Today, in fact, marks the anniversary of the death of the saint from the Gonzaga family, and Castiglione, as tradition dictates, is celebrating to honor his memory. After six days packed with appointments focused on remembering Saint Louis, cultural aspects related to Castiglione, and city celebrations, today it is the turn of the most religious part of the event, with the celebration of the solemn Holy Mass in the church dedicated specifically to Saint Louis.
The Eucharistic celebration and the authorities
The celebration will be officiated by Bishop Egidio Caporello of Mantova at 7:30 PM. To make the occasion even more solemn, the event will also feature the presence of the choirs of Alto Mantovano, from the Vicariate of San Luigi.
Civil authorities will gather at 7:15 PM at Palazzo Gonzaga to proceed to the nearby church of San Luigi. Immediately afterward, at the basilica, the jubilee processional of the clergy will begin, with the presentation of offerings to the bishop and the parishes.
The celebration of Saint Louis’s feast takes on, during the jubilee year, a special significance that deeply involves the citizens of Castiglione, who are strongly connected to the well-known figure of the saint.
