Castiglione City Council Backing Security Commission and Budget Plans

The security commission and the presidency held by Guido Zaglio emerge strengthened from the awaited review by the Castiglione delle Stiviere city council on Monday evening. The majority, led in particular by Mattioli of Castiglione Domani and Preti for Castiglione at the center, decided to accept an amendment that allocates municipal budget funds to support initiatives proposed by the commission.

There had been controversies accusing Guido Zaglio, the Lega president, of excessive protagonism. Now, Mattioli and Preti have officially announced that their majority lists strongly support the work of the commission and will promote its activities.

Amendments and Budget Discussion

But the cited amendment, as well as another, also presented by the PPI, DS, and Rifondazione groups and accepted by the majority and Lega, concerning the search for funding so that the municipality can purchase the apartments of Five Continents currently auctioned, was not the only highlight of Monday’s city council.

A significant part of the discussion (and controversy, given the lively exchange of opinions between Mattioli and Paganella) was focused on the forecasted budget for 2001. The administration presented the financial document after explaining it through the words of assessor Sereni.

He read the strategic report, which also highlights some tariff increases to be borne by citizens. Notably, the Irpef surcharge increases from 0.4% to 0.5%. According to the assessor, these increases are necessary to cover the rising fixed expenses for the municipality and services, without excessively penalizing investments.

It is worth noting that the budget measures were approved with votes against from Saviola, Ferlenga, Zaglio, Confalonieri, Paganella, and Mutti, and with abstentions from Margonari and Padovan. Among the public works scheduled for 2001 are: the construction of two gyms, one in Belvedere and one in Gozzolina; the creation of the new auditorium for Gonzaga High School, which the Province will carry out with a contribution of 300 million from the municipality; and the renovation of the former Asilo Menghini.

Suspension of the Agreement with Rudiana Immobiliare

At the end of the session, as the curtain was falling, a surprise: the agreement that the municipality of Castiglione was set to sign with Rudiana Immobiliare for the start of construction of the Carabinieri barracks was not approved. Following a request for clarification from the opposition, the majority decided to postpone the matter to a future session.
