Castiglione Continues Quarry Cleanup Despite TAR Appeal Approval
The municipality of Castiglione delle Stiviere will continue with its project to remediate the Pirata quarry. Despite the appeal to the TAR (Regional Administrative Court) by the owner of the polluted area in Castiglione, the regional administrative court of Brescia has decided not to suspend the measures taken by the Municipality and has approved the Durchführung of analyses and surveys on site.
Court ruling and TAR decisions
The ruling regarding the request for suspension filed by the owner of the Pirata quarry was issued by the president of the Brescia court on Friday but was only officially announced yesterday.
In recent days, the administration had issued an order for the occupation of the Pirata quarry area to allow its technicians access to the private property and carry out the necessary surveys for the executive project.
The owner of the area opposed this measure with an appeal to the TAR. The satisfaction with this ruling was expressed by the ecology councilor of the Castiglione municipality, David Beruffi.
Government commitments and reactions
He confirmed that the administration will continue uninterrupted with its policy of cleaning up the contaminated areas of the municipal territory, as agreed with the Regione Lombardia: ” We committed ourselves with our population and with those who voted for us — said Beruffi — to carry forward these projects that, until now, have been heavily discussed but never resolved.
The Region has granted us contributions, and we are moving forward with the remediation project.
The TAR, in response to the owner’s request for suspension of our occupation order of the former quarry, has sided with us, thereby enabling us to perform the required surveys for the executive project.
This confirms that we are on the right path with a cleanup that, unlike what the Padova administration was about to do — will restore the area without allowing further excavation.
Project continuation and legal support
Following the TAR’s ruling, the technicians appointed by the Castiglione administration will be able to enter the private property and proceed with their project, conducting all necessary assessments.
To assist the municipality of Castiglione in this case and in the counter-claim, lawyer Lieto from Mantova is representing them.
