Castiglione delle Stiviere Honors Its Medalists with National Commemorative Events

The municipality of Castiglione delle Stiviere will kick off Saturday afternoon’s celebratory events in honor of the five gold medals awarded to Castiglionesi from 1866 to 1945.

Many municipalities from Mantova, Lombardy, and all over Italy have now decided to attend officially, with their banners and mayors.

Among the personalities expected to be present are many generals and other senior military officers.

The two-day series of events, decided by the Castiglione municipal administration and organized directly by Mayor Sigurtà, will be an important moment to honor the memory of the Valiant Castiglionesi: Giovanni Chiassi, Erasmo Boschetti, Guido Maifreni, Pietro Maletti, Giuseppe Tellera.

Book Presentation and Commemorations

To remember them, the municipality has decided to support the work of General Armando Rati, who wrote a biography of the five medalists titled ‘Castiglione delle Stiviere and Its Five Gold Medals’.

This book will be presented on Saturday evening in the council chamber, following the opening of a collection of historical artifacts curated by the Circolo Filatelico, in the San Luigi gallery.

But the highlight of the event will be Sunday.

At 9 a.m., gathering will take place in piazzale Repubblica.

Then the mayor, together with the army band, will pay tribute to the fallen at the monuments in the districts.

At 10 a.m., the flag-raising ceremony in piazza San Luigi, the Holy Mass, and commemorative speeches will occur.

From 11 a.m. onwards, medals will be awarded, including to the represented municipalities, followed by a parade through the city streets.
