Castiglione Gonzaga School Proposes New Language and Programming Courses
Starting from the next school year, Liceo Statale Francesco Gonzaga could have two additional programs beyond its current offerings. This possibility arises from a proposal submitted by the school principal, Serafino Massoni, to the relevant institutional bodies, accompanied by a letter of support from the municipal administration.
If the project goes ahead, the Castiglione school will expand from the current sections of Scientific, Classic, and I.T.C. “Igea” for accountants to include language high school and “I.T.C.” Mercurio for programmers. This would significantly broaden Gonzaga’s educational offerings, as explained by the school director through various reasons.
Motivations and Details of the Project
“The school is located at the junction of the provinces of Mantova, Brescia, and Verona — it reads —, serving a large potential student population. Enrollment numbers are steadily increasing, currently reaching 650 students, with sections expanding from 20 to 32 over the past ten years. The territory is characterized by vibrant industrial activity and continued demographic growth.”
Massoni further explains that the new courses would not impose a financial burden on the state: “The language high school would originate from transforming the current bilingual section of the scientific high school, with the third language teacher coming from our I.T.C. It would only involve the cost of three hours per week with native-speaking teachers. The I.T.C. for programmers would only minimally alter the staffing, with the assignment of a teacher for theoretical-practical subjects.”
Four laboratories are already available, and additional facilities are under construction: “Overall, the school is equipped to manage this transformation,” clarifies the principal’s letter. “This innovation is responsive to the socio-economic context in which the institution is situated.”
The municipality strongly supports the initiative. “The executive and the mayor welcome the expressed intent,” states the Palazzo Gonzaga document, “and therefore endorse and support the proposal. We are willing to assist in the appropriate venues to secure the establishment of the new educational offerings — the language high school and the I.T.C. for programmers — starting from the 2002/2003 school year.”
The letter, signed by the Giuseppe Bertoli (Education Councillor) and Arturo Sigurtà (Mayor), outlines the reasons for supporting the principal’s proposal. It highlights Castiglione’s educational legacy, home to historic institutions, mentions the contract for a 700-seat auditorium, a satellite facility project, and supports the type of educational programs to be added to the current Gonzaga offerings.
