Castiglione to Build New Sports and Social Facility in Cinque Continenti

The Cinque Continenti neighborhood will soon have a new public facility for sports and social purposes. The announcement was made yesterday morning at the municipality by the sports councilors of Comune and Provincia, Angelo Tagliani and Monica Perugini, who is also responsible for Social Policies.

For the construction of the facility, which will be located next to the 7-a-side football fields as well as volleyball and basketball courts, on municipally owned land and with a project by the Comune, the Province has allocated the necessary 350 million lire in the 2001 budget.

Tagliani expressed his gratitude to Councilor Perugini for her commitment to Castiglione, which will also benefit from 50 million lire to refurbish the flooring of the Caglio gymnasium, as well as already having received funding for the lighting of the tamburello field.

Now, at Cinque Continenti, likely by next summer, work will commence on the new building, which will include services, showers, changing rooms, and a large multifunctional room that will also house the «Mondolandia» center. Currently, this center supports unaccompanied minors in the neighborhood through a shop rented by the Comune.

Sports and Social Objectives of the New Facility

«The integration of sports activity and social engagement is important – explained Monica Perugini –. This initiative creates a sports infrastructure complying with standards and a gathering area for all the local youth».

The funding was made possible thanks to an agreement between Provincia and Istituto di Credito Sportivo, which will allow the use of up to 20 billion lire in funds, at reduced interest rates and with installment-based repayments.

The provincial councilor explained that this is not an isolated initiative within the Mantuan territory, and then offered a critical assessment: «I am sorry that the leader of Lega Nord, Davide Boni, voted against, declaring himself opposed to interventions of this kind. The will of the administration I am part of, as well as that of Castiglione, is instead to focus on social integration».

The facility could be ready by the end of 2001.
