Castiglione’s Cultural Fridays Spotlight Medieval History and Monastic Heritage
The traditional “Castiglione Cultural Fridays” commence today in Castiglione, now in their 23rd edition. The first event, this evening at 8:30 PM, will focus on the theme “Monks and Medieval Monasticism: A History of Saints and Mystic and Missionary Warriors, Scholars and Farmers… Fleeing the World”, with speaker Carlo Fornari.
Upcoming Events
On Friday, October 12th at 8:30 PM, Giancarlo Andenna (Professor of Medieval History and Director of the Center for the Study of Monastic Settlements in Brescia) will present “Images of Daily Life in the Middle Ages in the Bayeux Tapestry”.
Then, on Friday, October 19th, again at 8:30 PM, Luciano Silveri, an expert on the subject, will discuss the controversial topic “The Holy Shroud: A Comparison with Science and History”.
Finally, on the evening of Friday, October 26th, Vittorio Carnemolla will illustrate “Traces and Testimonies of Renaissance Culture in Lombardy: The Restoration of the Last Supper”.
Initiatives and Context
The Castiglione Cultural Fridays — held at the Historical Aloisian Museum of the Collegio delle Vergini — are a significant initiative, made possible by the commitment of Mayor Arturo Sigurtà, who recently presented at the Catholic University of Brescia the Medieval Studies Days scheduled to take place in Castiglione on Thursday, October 11th, Friday, October 12th, and Saturday, October 13th.
Another notable initiative aimed at clarifying some of the unresolved points of Northern Italy’s monastic history.
As Mayor Sigurtà recalled, Castiglione has a population of 18,500 residents (including 1,280 non-EU nationals from 54 countries and 9 different religions), boasting a first-rate industrial fabric and an artistic heritage of absolute interest.
Undoubtedly, it is one of the Garda capitals, even though its territory does not reach the lake.
