Centomiglia 2023: Garda Sailing Event Celebrates 50 Years
The Centomiglia of 2000, the most prestigious sailing race on Garda, presents many news and updates. This year, the “Cento” celebrates its fiftieth anniversary, an important milestone for Europe’s most significant internal waters sailing competition.
On this occasion, Circolo Vela Gargnano, the nautical club that organizes the “marathon” of Lake Garda, has prepared a commemorative volume. Another major novelty is the advance of the event dates.
The Event Schedule
The program for the week dedicated to the “Cento” will start on Sunday, August 27, with the Trofeo Riccardo Gorla Gran Premio Marina Militare, followed by the European Championship for the Asso 99 class and the Cento Week, open to all classes.
The Centomiglia itself will begin on Saturday, September 2, at 8:30 am.
Side Events and Ocean Challenges
Among the accompanying events scheduled are those dedicated to the heroes of “Luna Rossa,” protagonists of the last edition of the America’s Cup, and to the “Barcolana,” the regatta held in Trieste at the beginning of October.
There will also be space for “Vela Evento,” the international circuit dedicated to Maxilibera boats, spectacular and acrobatic vessels that have starred in many editions of the “Cento”.
A thrilling duel is already announced between the brand-new “Principessa,” entrusted to the Verona-based champion Roberto Benamati, and “Raffica,” captained by the Desenzano-based Luca Valerio, who dominated the last edition.
