Centomiglia del Garda Celebrates 50 Years with Races and Events
The Centomiglia del Garda is set to celebrate its half-century after ten days of races and events. It is a sailing race, but not only that. It is also the festival of Lake Garda as a whole.
The schedule and events
This year’s calendar, with “Vela Evento,” also includes a rich program of activities. The celebrations kicked off on Friday evening with a concert by Maurizio Vandelli. Yesterday, the “50 Years of Centomiglia” exhibition was inaugurated in the halls of Gargnano’s old town hall, and Poste Italiane presented a special cancellation.
The races and sporting events
The races begin today at 8:30 a.m., on the lake arm between Castelletto di Brenzone and Gargnano, with the fleet of 300 participants competing in the 34th Trofeo Gorla Gran Premio Marina Militare. This race, which takes place six days before the Centomiglia scheduled for Saturday, September 2, runs in Upper Garda: from Bogliaco di Gargnano to Capo Reamol in Limone. The other two passages before arriving at Bogliaco are in Veronese waters: Malcesine and Assenza di Brenzone.
In the evening, at the Bogliaco entertainment arena, Vela Evento features a performance by comedian Stefano Nosei. From tomorrow to Wednesday, the Asso 99 fleet will compete in the European Championship.
On Tuesday at 9 p.m., Cuban music will take the stage with the group “Maria del Carmen,” also at the Bogliaco Arena. On Wednesday, the America’s Cup comes back into focus with an evening dedicated to “Luna Rossa.” Thursday the 31st will discuss the “Barcolana” in Trieste, the most crowded sailing regatta in the Mediterranean.
The races of the Cento Week and other events
Meanwhile, the races of the international Cento Week will follow, with the Steno Marchi and Furio Castellani trophies on the line, respectively on Wednesday and Thursday.
On Friday, September 1st, no races are scheduled, and sailors will entertain the crowds with some laughs, featuring Zelig comedians.
On Saturday, September 2nd, at 8:30 a.m., Garda will celebrate its golden wedding with the Centomiglia. The colorful fiftieth-anniversary fleet will set sail from Bogliaco and, after passing the disembarkation buoy in front of Castelletto di Brenzone, head towards Sirmione and Desenzano.
The other passages are planned at Bogliaco, Limone, Malcesine, and Acquafresca di Brenzone, with the finish line set in front of the Gargnano Sailing Club headquarters. The race can also be followed on l’Italia, the historic paddle boat of Navigarda, departing at 8 a.m. from Gargnano and at 8:30 a.m. from Bogliaco; the cruise costs 38,000 lire.
On Sunday, September 3rd, at 9 p.m., the music of “Quintorigo” will close the 50th Centomiglia.
