Centomiglia del Garda Recognized as Key Tourist and Sporting Event

The Ministry of Finance (by decree of December 13, 2000) has designated the Centomiglia del Garda as a high-profile sporting event of significant tourist interest, to be associated with one of the national lotteries of 2001.

This is the third time, after 1991 and 1995, that this concession has been granted upon specific request from the Comunità del Garda, represented by its president.

Results and activities of the Organizing Committee

Undoubtedly, Vincenzo Visco, through the Ministry he oversees, has confirmed the excellent work of the Local Organizing Committee, which already in 1991 and 1995, despite the challenging timing of August, achieved excellent results in ticket sales—approximately 1,200,000 tickets in the first edition and over 1,500,000 in 1995—and received highly positive feedback for promoting the image of Lake Garda and the sailing event itself; additionally, there was a positive increase in local nautical activities and a significant boost in youth sailing initiatives.

Role of the Comunità del Garda

The Comunità del Garda, encompassing a cross-regional and interprovincial territory with more than seventy municipalities forming its core, has decided to act as the representative of this opportunity.

The requesting body considered, first of all, that the Centomiglia del Garda international sailing regatta, organized by the Circolo Vela Gargnano, is one of the main expressions of sailing spectacle, capable of involving hundreds of international athletes and thousands of Italian and foreign spectators who are passionate about this sport, in a competition that highlights the values of an environmentally friendly sport, where Old Benaco (Old Garda) offers a true natural training ground.

Comment from President Mongiello

President Mongiello expressed particular satisfaction with this achievement, which confirms the reputation of Lake Garda, which, among other things, accounts for 10% of Italy’s foreign tourism movement.
