CentoMiglia in Gargnano: sailing regatta between tradition and innovation
The atmosphere of the CentoMiglia, Italy’s longest-running sailing regatta, is already electric in Gargnano, where over 100 boats are preparing to set sail. With 93 entries in the main race and a total of around 600 sailors participating in youth competitions and side events, the 2023 edition promises to be memorable. Among the participants is Roberto Benamati, a thirteen-time winner of the CentoMiglia, who returns to the water with his historic Star. The event will kick off on Saturday morning at 8:30 AM with the Trofeo Gargnano and will conclude on Sunday evening with the awards ceremony.
The new format of the regatta, based on the ORC regulations to ensure fairness and competitiveness, has received approval from the UVAI and the Italian Sailing Federation. The crews include young talents who will challenge the waters of the lake on boats like the Dolphin 81 Elegant and the Galeotto 2. There will also be side events, such as the screening of the film “No More Trouble” and competitions for visually impaired sailors. The entire community is ready to celebrate this significant anniversary that brings together sport, culture, and tradition in the heart of Lake Garda.
